Robert Serber (1909 - 1997)

Born in Philadelphia, he earned a Ph.D. in physics in 1934.
In April 1943, Serber gave a series of lectures which summarized designing and building an atomic bomb. In September 1945, he was with the first American team to enter Hiroshima and Nagasaki to assess the damage from the atomic bombs.
He retired from Columbia University in 1978, and died from brain cancer in 1997.
