Lise Meitner (1878 - 1968)

Lise Meitner was born in Vienna. Working with Otto Hahn, she laid the foundation for the discovery of nuclear fission of heavy nuclei. She was the head of the physics department of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute, until forced to flee from Nazi Germany.
In 1966, she along with Hahn and Strassmann were awarded the Enrico Fermi Award. She died on October 27, 1968.
